What is PM-KISAN?

PM-KISAN is a Central Sector scheme, fully paid for by the Government of India, to help farmer families buy farm inputs and meet household needs. A "family" means husband, wife and minor children who own cultivable land as per the State's land records. Each family gets ₹6,000 a year in three equal instalments by Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

The State or Union Territory decides who is eligible and uploads the verified list. The Centre then sends the money. So most problems are fixed by your State officials, not in Delhi.

When each instalment is due
Instalment periodAmount
April – July₹2,000
August – November₹2,000
December – March₹2,000

There is no fixed date within the period. The Government announces each release; the 24th instalment was released on 30 Oct 2026 at Banaskantha, Gujarat.

Who is eligible, and who is not

Eligible: any farmer family with cultivable land in its own name in the land records, whatever the size of the holding (the 2-hectare limit was removed from 1 Jun 2019). Urban land counts if it is actually farmed.

Not eligible:

Payments on hold for checking. The Department has withheld benefits for some suspected cases until physical verification is done, for example where land was acquired after 1 Feb 2019, or where more than one member of a family (husband and wife, or an adult and a minor) was getting the benefit. Check your eligibility under Know Your Status.

New farmer vs existing beneficiary

Three ways to register:

  1. Yourself, online: on pmkisan.gov.in → Farmers Corner → New Farmer Registration, or in the official PM-KISAN mobile app. Your Aadhaar is authenticated with UIDAI before you can continue.
  2. At a Common Service Centre (CSC) near you.
  3. Through State officials: the village Patwari, revenue official or the block / district nodal officer for the scheme.

Keep ready: Aadhaar, land details, bank account number and IFSC, and mobile number. You also give a self-declaration that your family is not in an excluded category.

Farmer ID: in 19 States where the farmer registry (AgriStack) has started, a Farmer ID is mandatory for new registrations (Lok Sabha reply, 10 Mar 2026). Elsewhere you can register without it.

What happens next: your form goes to the State Nodal Officer (SNO), who verifies it and approves it. Track it under "Status of Self Registered Farmer / CSC Farmers". You are paid from the 4-month period in which the State uploads your name.

e-KYC: three ways

ModeWhereYou need
OTPpmkisan.gov.in (e-KYC, top right) or the PM-KISAN appAadhaar with an active linked mobile number
Biometric (fingerprint)CSC or State Seva Kendra; also through State authorised users. A CSC may charge a small feeAadhaar card and Aadhaar-linked mobile
Face authenticationPM-KISAN app plus the Aadhaar FaceRD app from Google Play StoreLog in with your registered mobile, enter Aadhaar, scan your face

Your e-KYC status shows in Know Your Status after about 24 hours. More on e-KYC in our KYC guide.

How an instalment reaches you

The portal is linked with UIDAI (Aadhaar check), PFMS (account and government employee/pensioner check), the Income Tax Department (taxpayer check) and NPCI (account validation and Aadhaar-based payment).

Which account gets the money? Only one account per person can receive DBT: the one your bank has seeded with the NPCI mapper. To choose or change it, visit that bank's branch. You can check your bank seeding status on myAadhaar or on NPCI's website. See our Aadhaar guide for Aadhaar updates and linking. A Jan Dhan account works fine: see PMJDY.

Check your status and the beneficiary list

Illustration only. Screens are simplified; the registration number, mobile, bank and UTR are samples.
  1. On pmkisan.gov.in, open Farmers Corner → Know Your Status.
  2. Enter your registration number (or find it with "Know your registration number") and the captcha.
  3. Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile.
  4. Read the status. Each paid instalment shows the bank, payment mode, UTR number and credit date; your bank can trace a credit by its UTR.

Village list: Farmers Corner → Beneficiary List; choose State, district, sub-district, block and village. Lists are also displayed at the Panchayat. You can also check status with the Kisan-eMitra chatbot or by calling 155261.

Why your instalment didn't come

ReasonWhat to do
e-KYC not doneComplete it by OTP, face scan in the app, or fingerprint at a CSC.
Land not seeded / land records not verifiedContact your Patwari, revenue official or block / district agriculture office.
Bank account not Aadhaar-seededVisit your bank branch and ask it to seed Aadhaar for DBT with the NPCI mapper.
Name mismatch (Aadhaar, land record, bank)Correct your name as per Aadhaar online, or raise a grievance for land or name mismatch.
Wrong or closed bank details (payment failed)The failure is reported back to the State; ask your nodal officer to correct the details.

Once the cause is fixed, the due instalments are paid, except where you are found ineligible.

How to correct your details

Complaints and helpline

  1. Helpdesk on the portal: Farmers Corner → Helpdesk – Query Form. Enter your registration number (or temporary ID if your registration is pending), describe the problem and track it by grievance ID. It goes straight to the nodal officer concerned.
  2. Phone: 155261, also linked to Bharat-VISTAAR for status checks and PM-KISAN complaints.
  3. Kisan-eMitra chatbot on the portal and app answers payment, registration and eligibility questions in 11 languages.
  4. State officials: block, district and State nodal officers; usually the District Agriculture Officer. Names left out of the list can go to the District Level Grievance Redressal Monitoring Committee. Grievances are meant to be settled, preferably, within two weeks.
  5. CPGRAMS: the central public grievance portal also accepts PM-KISAN complaints.

Refund if you were paid wrongly

If you are not eligible (for example an income tax payer or government employee), you must return the money. A wrong self-declaration makes you liable to recovery and penal action. States recover such payments; ₹416.75 crore had been recovered by December 2025.

Safety

Use only pmkisan.gov.in and the official PM-KISAN app. Install the app from Google Play Store (linked from the portal), never from an APK file sent on WhatsApp or SMS. Registration, status and e-KYC on the portal are free; at a CSC the e-KYC fee is ₹15.
