CKYC Number: Find Your 14-Digit Central KYC Number (KIN)

Independent guide. We are not part of CERSAI, RBI or any bank, and we never ask for your KYC documents, account details or OTP.

CKYC stands for Central KYC. When you complete KYC at a bank, insurer or mutual fund, your record is uploaded to a central registry run by CERSAI, and you get a 14-digit CKYC number. Give that number to another institution and, with your consent, it fetches your record instead of asking for the same documents again.

What is CKYC?

The Central KYC Records Registry (CKYCR) is one central store of the KYC records of customers across India's financial sector. Its aim is simple: you prove who you are once, and every regulated institution can reuse that proof instead of collecting and checking the same documents each time you open a new account.

The record holds your details in a common format, a photograph and scanned copies of your proof of identity and address. Only registered institutions can access it, such as banks, NBFCs, insurers, mutual funds, brokers and pension intermediaries regulated by RBI, SEBI, IRDAI or PFRDA. You can't edit it yourself.

CKYC is not a separate KYC. You still do normal KYC once. CKYC is where the result is stored and how it is reused.

The 14-digit CKYC number (KIN)

When your record is first uploaded, the registry gives it a unique 14-digit KYC Identifier. People also call it the CKYC number, CKYC ID or KIN. The registry checks every new upload against existing records by name, other details and identity documents, so that each person ends up with only one number.

A letter before the 14 digits tells you the record was made under relaxed rules:

Starts withType of recordSample (fictional)
No letterNormal account, full KYC with an OVD12345678901234
SSmall account (photo and signature or thumb impression only)S12345678901234
LSimplified measures account (extra documents allowed)L12345678901234
OOpened by Aadhaar OTP e-KYC without meeting youO12345678901234
MMinor's accountM12345678901234

Other institutions can't open accounts on the basis of an "O" record. If your number starts with S, L or O, completing full KYC at your bank lets it update the record.

How your CKYC record is created and reused

How to find your CKYC number

Since April 2024 you can see a view-only CKYC card yourself. You need the mobile number registered in your KYC record.

Illustration only. The portal's screens may differ; the mobile number, name and identifier are samples.
  1. Missed call: from your registered mobile, call 7799022129. You get an SMS link to your CKYC card.
  2. Website: on ckycindia.in β†’ View your CKYC Card, verify your mobile number with an OTP; the card link comes by SMS.
  3. DigiLocker: CERSAI's operating guidelines list DigiLocker as a third way to fetch the card.
  4. Look at your papers: the registry asks institutions to show the number (partly masked) on passbooks, account statements, mobile and internet banking, insurance policies and demat statements. Check the old SMS or email sent when the number was generated.
  5. Ask your bank or insurer: it must give you the number once it is generated. If no number exists or your mobile isn't in the record, it can upload or update your record.

No SMS after the missed call? Your record probably has an old mobile number, or none. Only the institution can change it: update your mobile number with your bank (see updating), then try again.

Using your CKYC number to open a new account

When you give your KYC Identifier with your explicit consent, the institution must download your record online and must not ask you to submit the same documents again, except when:

Even if you don't quote the number, an institution may search the registry for it. Before it can download your record through the system, the registry sends an OTP to the mobile number in your record, and the institution must submit it. Consent is needed every time a record is downloaded, and the registry has sent you an SMS each time your record is fetched since 13 Mar 2024.

RBI says your KYC Identifier is the first reference point for opening an account, re-KYC or checking your identity. Opening an account online with your KYC Identifier counts as non-face-to-face onboarding, so the bank may add extra checks. Since 29 Dec 2025, the institution that last uploaded or updated your record is responsible for having verified your identity and address; a bank relying on a current downloaded record need not re-verify them.

Updating or correcting your CKYC details

You can't change your record on ckycindia.in, and the registry's helpdesk sends customers back to their institution. CERSAI told institutions on 20 May 2024 that any correction can be made only by them.

  1. Go to any bank, insurer or fund house where you have an account, and ask it to update your KYC (new address, mobile, name, photo, or a mismatch on your CKYC card).
  2. Give the supporting document it asks for. A self-declaration is enough for re-KYC with no change or with only an address change.
  3. The institution must send the updated details to CKYCR within 7 days (the rule since 19 Jul 2024; earlier it was "as soon as possible").
  4. The registry electronically informs every institution linked to your record, and each must fetch the update and refresh its own records. You don't need to repeat it everywhere.

The same route applies when a minor turns 18, when you want separate office and home addresses for different accounts, or if you suspect two records exist for you: duplicates are merged, the earliest record is kept and extra details from the duplicate are added to it.

Common problems and fixes

ProblemWhat to do
Missed call or website gives nothingYour mobile isn't in the record, or no record exists. Ask your bank to update your mobile number or upload your KYC.
Wrong name, address or photo on the cardAsk your bank or insurer to correct it with a supporting document. The registry can't change it.
SMS says an institution you don't know downloaded your recordContact that institution and ask why; complaints to the registry are passed to it. If it is a bank, NBFC or wallet and it doesn't resolve it within 30 days, complain under RB-IOS.
Bank still asks for all documentsAsk which exception applies (changed details, incomplete record, expired document, extra checks). If none, complain to the bank first.
Number starts with O, S or LComplete full KYC at your bank so the record can be updated.

The registry's helpdesk (for the public too) is 022-61102592 or 022-50623300, Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., or [email protected].

Safety: protect your CKYC record

Never share an OTP with anyone who calls, messages or emails you. A CKYC download OTP is meant only for an account you are opening yourself, at the institution's branch or in its own official app. If you didn't start anything, don't give it.

FAQs

What is the full form of CKYC?

Central Know Your Customer: your KYC record held in the Central KYC Records Registry run by CERSAI.

How many digits is a CKYC number?

14 digits. Some have a letter in front: S (small account), L (simplified measures), O (Aadhaar OTP account) or M (minor).

How can I check my CKYC number?

Give a missed call to 7799022129 from your registered mobile, use "View your CKYC Card" on ckycindia.in, fetch it through DigiLocker, or ask your bank or insurer.

Do I need to apply for CKYC separately?

No. Your bank, insurer or fund house uploads your record after your normal KYC. You can't register on the portal yourself; its Register and Login buttons are for institutions.

Can I update my address on ckycindia.in?

No. Ask any institution where you have an account to update it. It must send the update to the registry within 7 days, and the others are told automatically.

Is CKYC the same as KRA KYC for mutual funds?

No. A KRA holds your securities-market KYC. Since 1 Aug 2024 KRAs also upload verified records to CKYCR.

Can a bank download my record without asking me?

It must take your consent every time, and an OTP goes to your registered mobile. You get an SMS after each download. If one surprises you, contact that institution.

I have no CKYC number. What should I do?

Ask your bank to complete or update your KYC and upload it. Generating pending numbers is part of the campaign running until 31 Dec 2026.
